An East Yorkshire vitamin manufacturer has been named one of the top 1,000 companies to inspire Britain by the London Stock Exchange.

Established in 1992, Bee Health Ltd has grown from a small family-run businessspecialising in bee-derived ingredients into a leading manufacturer of vitamins and supplements.

It now produces than 100 million capsules and tablets a week from its state-of-the-art facility in the Carnaby Industrial Estate, exporting to over 40 countries.

Over the past year, the company has invested £1.4m in its Bridlingtonfacility, doubling its capacity and creating 80 new jobs.

The company's dramatic growth has this week earned it a place on the 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain report.

Managing director Steve Ryan said: "The health supplement market is experiencing a period of significant growth and we have invested in staff and machinery to ensure we are more adaptable to capitalise on this."

Bee Health specialises in private label and contract manufacturing for some of the world's largest retailers. Holland & Barrett recently awarded the firm 'Supplier of the Year'.

The company's investment in a new softgel plant has made it the largest food supplement manufacturer in the UK.

Mr Ryan said: "Being a UK manufacturer has been a key strength in our growth as leading brands want assurance of quality, traceability and we produce to the highest standards in the world."

The 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain report celebrates the UK's fastest-growing and most dynamic small and medium sized businesses. To be included in the list, companies needed to show consistent revenue growth over a minimum of three years, significantly outperforming their industry peers.

Other East Yorkshire firms on the list include Cottingham-based leisure home manufacturer Swift, Hull-based transport and mobility services company ESP Group, refrigerated vehicle specialist Paneltex in Hull, Humberside Aggregates in Brough, Hull-based Prestige Recruitment and Beal Homes.

Adam Marshall, director general of the British Chambers of Commerce, said: "These are firms that recognise their own success is intrisically linked to the success of the place they call home.

"Growing businesses are only as strong as the teams they build. Their lasting success depends on recruiting and retaining the right people. The companies in this report are prime examples of recognising and fostering great talent and skills. Crucially, they are businesses that invest in their staff and develop the sort of modern working environments that make people feel valued and supported."
