Boom for babywear and accessories business as it expands from market stall to shop

There's been a real boom for this babywear shop with an expansion into the historic Haven Mill.

The new Alexander Byron shop is now open and is an expansion of Davie’s Baby Stuff on Grimsby’s Top Town Market.

Tracey and David Miller decided to begin their venture after their granddaughter was born, and set up shop on Top Town Market three years ago.

Davie’s Baby Stuff still stands proudly at its original premises, but the pair decided to expand their business so they were able to offer more product options.

Tracey said that their customers from the market stall have remained loyal and have visited the new shop, but that they’ve also gained new customers.

David said: “I think our customer service sets us apart from other businesses. We offer great customer service. We try to provide a service that people want – we offer free delivery, and a website where people can choose to click and collect.

“There are no other babywear shops in the town like ours. What we sell is very much in demand. We don’t have sufficient room on the market to provide everything we want, which is why we wanted to open this shop. We have always sold nursery furniture, but now we can display more of it,” he added.

When asked how he felt about being successful enough to be able to expand their business, David said: “It shows that people have a confidence in us and that they respect what we do.

"People are choosing to come to us for our products rather than shopping at supermarkets, and we are very proud of that.”

"At a time when so many businesses are closing down, and the only shops that appear to be opening up are charity shops, pound shops, vape shops and cheap clothing stores, we just thought it was a really good idea for Grimsby to have a designer baby boutique in the heart of town.”

The shop’s premises was last home to a hairdressing salon and a tattoo parlour, and stands opposite the entrance of the old Tap & Spile pub.

“We felt that Haven Mill was the ideal location for our business. It’s an iconic building in the town – it’s romantic. It just felt right to move here. As soon as we saw that the shop was available we wanted to move here.

"We’ve noticed a lot of people take photos inside the building because there is such a sense of history about it.”

Tracey added: “We love the building – it just fits so well with what we’re doing and with the building being old it is just so lovely. It is really romantic and old worldy.”

The shop also has a nursing chair and a changing unit, as well as gifts and decorations for baby showers. Tracey also makes nappy cakes for such occasions.

It is open from 9am until 5pm from Monday to Saturday.
