A NEW auction house is opening in Grimsby, with ‘Big Red’ sheds of items offered ahead of tomorrow’s first sale.
Prestige Auctions has been launched by Carl Vince, the man behind Prestige Antiques and Collectables, found within the Big Red Shed on Wilton Road, Humberston.
The gavel will go down for the first time on Saturday morning, at a new venue off Cleethorpe Road.
Mr Vince, who has taken a former warehouse of home improvement business Expressions, said: “It is an expansion of the business.
“We have a house clearance and removal business, and we have now got antiques and collectables, and we found ourselves putting a lot of things into auctions.
“There is only one in the town at present, we have been using that, but is seemed like a natural progression to open and give it a go.”
Carl with David Dickinson Alison Chapman.
With a forecourt space he also hopes to operate in the vehicle sector, with many dealers currently sending cars out of the town to be auctioned off.
“Hopefully that will be a good selling point for us, and nice to be able to offer a service here,” he said. Looking ahead to the launch, Mr Vince, said: “We have everything from garden tools right through to oxblood Chesterfield settee and gold sovereigns. We go from one end to the other, it will be an auction for everybody, not just about dealers. we want to get the private people there too.”
That is part of the thinking behind the Saturday morning timing, well that and his love for the Mariners. “The auctions will be at 9.30am, so I can still get down to Grimsby Town when the season starts,” he added.
Viewing days will be noon to 7pm on a Friday.
A self-confessed antique fanatic, he met David Dickinson five years ago when he visited Scunthorpe.
He negotiated a deal worth £610 with valuer Alison Chapman for an 1855 gold medal, awarded to students of the University of London, found during a house clearance.
