An East Yorkshire garage design business whose clients include the likes of Lamborghini and Porsche is this year targeting £15m turnover.
JD Garage Equipment designs garage layouts and installs equipment for some of the UK’s largest car dealerships.
Over the past four years, the company has increased turnover from £2.3m to £10.9m while increasing its profit margin and growing its workforce to 72 people.
Its growth has been boosted by three investments totalling £427,000 from Finance Yorkshire’s Business Loan fund.
Director James Everard, who runs the business with his brother Nicolas, said: “We operate in an industry where many traditional companies have failed to innovate. We run a dynamic business that prides itself on the new concepts, designs and ideas that we present to our customers.
“The business is experiencing tremendous growth – we plan to be turning over £15m by our next year-end in March 2018. Word of mouth is helping us to identify and recruit talented people to support that growth.”
The company was founded in 2003 by John Everard and his son, James, who at the time was only 16.
Originally called JD Engineering, the company has since grown and evolved to become the largest of its kind in the north of England.
James and Nicolas acquired the business from their father and have since continued to invest in its growth.
Customers now include Audi, Volkswagen, BMW, Renault, Lamborghini and Porsche via dealerships such as Sytner, Pendragon, Vertu, BMW UK and Renault Retail Group.
Last year, the company expanded into larger headquarters at the Green Park Business Park, near Newport, and has acquired land to build an extension that will expand the floorspace by 50 per cent.
Alex McWhirter, chief executive at Finance Yorkshire, said: “JD Garage Equipment is an exciting business with tremendous potential. They have grown their customer base by offering a fresh approach coupled with excellent customer service.
“Our investments were critical at a time of rapid growth when the business required working capital. I’m delighted that we have been able to support their success and look forward to seeing the business continue to expand.”
Ian Kelly, chief executive of Hull and Humber Chamber of Commerce, said: “It is fantastic to see the growth of this Humber-based business, which is creating jobs and putting our region on the international stage. This is precisely the kind of innovation that we want to tell the world about.”
