Grimsby's fish fingers lead seafood giant's proud salute to UK production

Young’s Seafood is to champion Grimsby fish finger production as it "proudly" joins the Made in Britain organisation and displays the patriotic Union Jack marque.

The step follows research that suggests UK consumers would choose to buy British if given the choice, and it means the iconic pack will now be topped by the Dock Tower in one corner and the flag in the other. 

Fish fingers have been selected by the Ross House team as it presents a unique selling point – it is the only brand to produce the frozen family favourite in this country. It will soon roll out “to include other British classics from Young’s”.

Yvonne Adam, marketing director at Young’s, said: “Our research shows that we Brits love our fish fingers, and we love to buy British-made products. We’re proud to be the only fish finger brand still making the product in Britain – proudly made by our team in Grimsby.”

A digital marketing campaign will support the link-up with the chance to win a year’s supply.

Researchers working for Young’s polled 2,000 adults and revealed the growing trend and importance of buying British.

Results found 60 per cent would crown British cuisine ‘the best in the world’, while nearly half of respondents say eating British food reminds them of their childhood. 

Fish and chips, roast chicken, and shepherd’s pie all made the top 10 line-up of favourite British meals, with six in ten labelling British food as ‘traditional and comforting’.

Designed to help consumers quickly and easily recognise British-made products, the ‘Made in Britain’ marque is accredited to businesses that make and sell goods which have been manufactured or have undergone a final substantial change in this country before going on the market.

Using Alaska pollock or cod, the Young's range also includes a free-from variety, all produced in one of the three factories that employ more than 1,700 people in the company's home town.
