Hull Street Food Nights festival will make city like 'Covent Garden meets Marrakech'

If you can't decide on where to eat when the summer nights coming rolling in, you now have the option to try some of the city's favourite food all at once.

Set to take place around the newly revamped Trinity Square, in the shadow of the soon-to-be Hull Minster, according to Hull What's On there will be a food and drink fiesta once a month, promising live music, magicians and a Mediterranean feel.

Catherine Goble, marketing and events coordinator for Hull Business Improvement District (Hull Bid), the team behind the Hull Street Food Nights concept, said: "We will set it up a bit like a piazza, and have deckchairs, bistro tables and chairs, picnic benches and long canteen-style tables, and decorate the area with string lights.

"In addition, we will have entertainment throughout the night, ranging from a DJ and live music through to lindy hoppers, magicians, jugglers, circus skill acts and fire eaters etc, which we hope will give it quite a bohemian and Mediterranean feel. Think Covent Garden meets Marrakech."

Kerb Edge will be there.

Starting in April, the street food nights will run monthly until Thursday, September 21. There are currently plans to have about a dozen local high-quality hot-food vendors, including Shoot The Bull, Kerb Edge and Tapasya. Along with the food, there will be a couple of pop-up bars offering a selection of soft and alcoholic drinks.

A manager for Tapasya – which provides Indian food in a fine dining setting - said: "We want to educate people about Indian street food. When you go to India you find people preparing food in front of you and it is very different to what you get in our fine dining restaurants or other Indian restaurants.

"This is something we have never done in Hull before and we are very much looking forward to showing India's food. We have prepared the menu and we are just waiting for the go ahead."

The first night is set for Thursday, April 20, and will follow once a month throughout the summer.

Hull Street Food Nights for 2017 will be on:

  • Thursday, April 20
  • Thursday, May 25t
  • Thursday, June 22
  • Thursday, July 27
  • Thursday, August 17
  • Thursday, September 21
