A prestigious East Yorkshire hotel and wedding venue is up for sale.

Rowley Manor Hotel, a grade two listed Georgian manor house at Little Weighton, has a price tag of £1.6m.

The hotel, which is on the shortlist for Hotel of the Year at the first Hull Lifestyle Awards, due to be announced during Humber Business Week next week, has come to the market through specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co.

A spokesman for Christie & Co confirmed it was still "business as usual" at the venue.

Rowley Manor Hotel, Little Weighton, is a popular venue for weddings and functions

"All existing wedding bookings will be honoured, and they are still open to new wedding bookings," the spokesman said.

Rowley Manor is a popular venue for wedding ceremonies, special occasion parties and corporate functions, as well as for hotel stays.

There are 16 bedrooms and last year, owners reported a £762,000 turnover, with profits of £101,000.

It also comes with five-bedroom owner accommodation, although this needs ugrading.

It is being sold by its current owners, Amanda and Brian Hewitt Jones, who have owned and operated the business for 14 years.

Mrs Hewitt Jones said: "Rowley Manor Hotel has been a fulfilling and rewarding experience, but we feel now is a good time to sell, which will enable us to spend more time with our family."

The manor house was formerly the rectory to St Peter's Church, Rowley, and sits on a 3.5-acre site adjacent to the historic church in Little Weighton.

The building remained the rectory until 1928, when local shipping magnate Thomas Filmer-Wilson, whose family owned the famous Hull-based shipping fleet of the Ellerman-Wilson line, bought the estate.

It was converted into a hotel in 1970 after the death of Mr Filmer-Wilson and continues to be regarded as one of the best country homes in Yorkshire.

The accommodation has a wealth of period charm, feature fireplaces and fine Georgian character.

There are 16 en suite bedrooms, a cosy bar area and The Mallington Restaurant, which serves dinners and Sunday lunches made from locally sourced ingredients.

The hotel has gained a reputation as one of the area's finest wedding venues, with The Pine Room, The View Room and The Garden Room all licensed to hold civil ceremonies.

It has a four-star "Excellent" rating on TripAdvisor.

Mark Worley, director in Christie & Co's Newcastle office, is handling the sale of the hotel.

He said: "Rowley Manor is beautifully positioned with panoramic views of the surrounding land and a driveway which sweeps past a pretty church, and croquet lawns.

"It is clear to see why this is such a popular choice for brides and grooms."
