It has been delayed by six months but Papas fish and chips new restaurant has opened amid glowing praised from punters and none other than Lord Prescott.
While the takeaway in the former Swiss Cottage pub in Bilton has been serving for several months, the restaurant has taken longer to open.
But after winning BBC Two's Britain's Best Takeaway this week the chippy has decided to press ahead with the opening.
The restaurant was officially opened by former Deputy Prime Minister Lord Prescott on Thursday evening.
The former East Hull MP said: "It is fantastic to have a new restaurant like this, particularly in this part of Hull.
"This is about ordinary people coming out for a meal. The fish and chips here are beautiful but it is also at a price people can afford.
"We have some great restaurants in Hull now to suit all tastes but I don't think you can beat a plate of fish and chips."
Dino Papas, who runs Britain's best fish and chip shop with his brother George and dad Sid, believes opening the new restaurant has been worth the wait.
He said: "We had planned to open the restaurant in October but there were building issues we didn't anticipate.
"Tonight we had a family from Doncaster and turning up to our new restaurant and the feedback has been fantastic.
"Those that had been in the Swiss Cottage pub can't believe the transformation. It had a flat roof but we have opened up the vault ceiling.
"We decided to push forward the opening because of all of the support we have received."

The restaurant will cater for up to 250 people and will be an addition to the already successful takeaway.
The choice to push forward the opening of the restaurant has also stemmed from the celebratory offer of 1p fish and chips the Papas family are holding on Tuesday, March 28.
Allan Taylor and his wife Lisa, of Keyingham, popped in for some grub.
Mr Taylor, 51, said: "The fish and chips were sublime. We have never been to Papas before but you couldn't fault it."
Lisa, 43, added: "I saw that the restaurant was opening on Facebook so we thought we would give it a try.
"The fish was really light and fluffy and the batter was fantastic."
Harry Williams and his wife Judy, of Wawne, are regulars at Papas and were one of the first customers at the new restuarant.
Mr Williams, 58, said: "We go to the Willerby restaurant quite a lot and it is one of our favourites.
"But this one is much closer to home so it is great news. The food is great and the service is excellent."
Mrs Williams was also impressed, saying: "They have done a good job with the new restaurant and everything just needs to settle in.
"But they go about things in the right way here and you can;t beat the service."
The restaurant will be open every day from 11.30am to 10pm.
