Major multi-million pound plans for new family pub and a Lidl revealed

A major development near Hull could see a new family pub and restaurant created alongside a Lidl supermarket.

Lidl UK have put forward the proposals to build their new store on land off Ferriby Road, in Barton, replacing its own store in the town.

The new supermarket will be part of a wider development near Ferriby Road, which will also include the family pub.

The multi-million development plans to deliver the sustainable new store with 1,325m² sales area, and plans to create up to 20 new jobs.

The company is currently working to sub-divide its town centre into separate smaller retail units.

Following a planning consultation earlier in the year, amendments were made to the application by Lidl UK before it was sent to North Lincolnshire County Council for consideration.

Amendments to the proposals include removing the southern end of ‘Top Field’ from the wider development proposals and preserving it as undeveloped space for informal public use. There are also no longer houses proposed in Lidl UK’s plans.

Lidl UK’s regional head of property, Graham Burr, said: “We’d like to thank everybody who participated in the public consultation.

"Changes have been made to the plans as a result of community input.

“Our existing Lidl store is no longer able to meet the demands of our growing customer base. Residents of Barton will know that we have tried to improve the existing store through a number of minor planning applications and planning modifications over the years, but due to its location within a conservation area this is not sustainable in the long-term.”

Mr Burr said the supermarket chain are keen to serve their customers in the area, but outgrow their current store on High Street in Barton.

He said: “We want to stay serving our loyal customer base in Barton, but recognise the limitations of our existing site. Therefore we have taken the decision to invest in a new store elsewhere in the town.

“By relocating we can significantly improve our local store offer and minimise the impacts on neighbouring residents.”

The new store will contain numerous facilities that had not been at the current High Street supermarket, including an in store bakery.

Lidl has 670 stores around the UK, and they continue plans to open between 50 and 60 stores each year. Work is currently taking place on a new Lidl store on Brighton Street, west Hull, which should be completed by the turn of 2018.
