A heavy lift project cargo item has been brought to ABP’s port of Immingham for export on to Mariupol in Ukraine in what was praised as a successful joint operation.

ABP operational employees worked alongside specialist logistics company, ICT Logistics (ICTL) to load the cargo onto the vessel, MV Zuidvliet which landed at port on Monday evening after travelling across from Sweden.

The 121 tonne product, a back up roll, which has been produced from solid cast steel and built at heavy engineering firm, Sheffield Forgemasters International Ltd will be used in the steel rolling process for a factory in Ukraine.

Mark Frith, Port Manager for Grimsby and Immingham said: “We’re very pleased but not surprised with how smoothly this new operation went today. We pride ourselves on being able to handle any type of cargo through our port and with the support and assistance from ICTL, we were able to satisfy another happy customer.”

The cargo was expertly transported to the port from Sheffield via the M180 by Goole based logistics company ICTL. Due to the size of the cargo, which is due to arrive in Mariupol in mid-July, the main road had to be temporarily closed on Monday night but resulted in minimal disruption to the general public.

Mike Medden, General Director, ICT Logistics said: “We have a lot of enquires for both the export and import of project cargo into and out of the UK and the Humber Ports are ideally situated for this type of traffic, particularly the Port of Immingham.  ABP’s operational team at Immingham are extremely professional and always willing to help where ever they can and both ICTL and our clients are grateful for the support we receive – Long may it continue.”
