The owners of a Hull electrical firm are celebrating their two year anniversary with the business with a further expansion.
Merlx, based in Williamson Street, east Hull, changed ownership two years ago and has now recruited new personnel and taken on new property.
Chris Fawley, who runs Merlx with his wife, Karen, acquired the business in September 2015 and has made a number of changes to personnel, procedures and property in shifting the focus from the domestic market to commercial clients.
The business has also established links with another well-known family firm in the area by appointing Paul Hogarth, formerly of JL Hogarth Electrical Ltd.
Mr Fawley said: “Merlx was a successful business with a good reputation and a sizeable domestic client base. That remains important to us but I’ve spent my career in the commercial sector and that is where we have been pursuing new opportunities.
“The changes we have made have enabled us to achieve gradual expansion and we are now in a strong position to build on that.”
A year ago, Merlx marked its first anniversary by taking on its largest housing renovation project to date. The company carried out improvements to more than 300 homes in the Preston Road area after being appointed by the main contractor, Willmott Dixon.
The client base also includes residential property agents Beercocks, Reeds Rains, Larards Lets and Stephenson Property Management as well as the property arm of Trinity House.
The owners hope the recruitment of Paul Hogarth will strengthen the company in the area, similarly to how Mr Fawley’s business have benefited from his contacts from his career working across Yorkshire.
Mr Hogarth started as an apprentice at Humber Electrical and, in addition to working for his father’s business, he worked locally for companies including Hall Construction Group, Soper Group and AFM.
Mr Fawley said: "Paul has vast experience in terms of variety of projects, from construction to upgrades and maintenance and installation of renewable energy technology.
"He’s worked in hands-on roles, he’s held various management positions and he’s well-known in the local area.
“We’re now two years into our five-year plan and with the volume of work that is coming in it will probably become a 10-year plan. We’ve also made some improvements to our premises and we’re inviting clients, suppliers and anyone who wants to know more about us to come along to our open day.”
An open day for the business will take place from 10am until 5pm on Thursday 28 September at the Merlx offices in Williamson Street, Hull. For further information please contact Merlx on 01482 635188.
