The Dog and Rat in Broughton shut on Sunday, (January 7) at 10pm.

An announcement was posted on the High Street pub's Facebook page on Friday, (January 5).

It said: "It is with much regret but I must inform you that the Dog and Rat will be closing it's doors at 10pm on Sunday evening.

"It has been a pleasure meeting you all but the pub can no longer trade at a loss. I and my staff have tried everything we can think of.

"The brewery, Punch Taverns, has been unable to find anyone to take over from us so it must close."
