Scunthorpe bike shop set to close after opening in January

A BIKE shop that opened on Scunthorpe High Street just months ago is set to close.

Monoco Motorcycles opened its doors back in January due to the increasing demand owner, Darren Rhodes, was receiving online for his bikes.

But now, Mr Rhodes has taken the decision to put his shop up for rent.

He said that despite receiving good feedback about his shop and getting a lot of interest, not enough sales had been made.

"I've had hundreds of people coming in walking round and saying how great it is to have a decent bike shop back in Scunthorpe, however, they walk straight back out without buying anything and if the sales aren't there something has to give," he said.

"It's coming across that people just haven't got the funds. The bikes are selling very well in the south of the country and they're quite happy to pay the extra £150 to have them delivered but up here they don't have the money to buy them.

"I can't justify staying open with no spending customers when I can rent out the shop to someone else."
