St James House to be flattened in £4.1m Grimsby town centre redevelopment
The £4.1m "unlocking the potential" scheme for Grimsby could be underway in January

The council is set to flatten St James House in Grimsby and give the go-ahead to a £4.1 million town centre redevelopment - with work due to start in early 2018.
A vision to revamp Riverhead square, Town Hall Square, Cartergate and St James House has been revealed by North East Lincolnshire Council, paving the way for the delivery of the highly anticipated £20m cinema and restaurant complex.
In what could be seen as the first steps to NELC's impressive plans to completely transform Grimsby town centre, Cabinet councillors are set to give the green-light for a two-year programme of improvement to vast areas of central Grimsby.
Funded by a £.3.6 million grant from the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership and £450,000 of council cash, if approved by Cabinet next week, the scheme is outlined to begin in January.
Called the "unlocking the potential" programme, the council hopes the proposed works will help secure business investment for the new cinema and restaurant complex.

Once completed in around two years time, the council expects to see £30 million of private sector investment as a result, and 222 new jobs created.
The programme includes four main areas of redevelopment and they are;
- Riverhead Square – Infrastructure and public realm works including an enhanced pedestrian link between Riverhead Square and Alexandra Dock to support delivery of the £20m cinema/leisure development at Riverhead Square.

- Town Hall Square – Extension of the public realm improvements in Osborne Street to Town Hall Square to enhance the area and to support efforts to bring vacant premises back into use.

- Cartergate – Improvements to pedestrian and vehicular access to the site to unlock development of the land adjoining the recently completed Wilkin Chapman office building.

- St James House – Demolition of the vacant premises at St James House and public realm improvements to St James Square to support the mixed use redevelopment of the site.

The council hopes to push through these plans at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, November 22, in a bid to enable Grimsby to become a "prosperous and distinctive location".
It would also contribute to the Greater Grimsby Town Deal, a £100m investment plan, creating 5,400 jobs, 7,700 new homes to boost our local economy by more than £216 million.
This involves a sports and leisure plan for the recently bought Victoria Mills, as well as further land acquisitions to create improved residential, business and education opportunities, eventually stretching to the Kasbah on Grimsby Docks.

A draft scheme for Town Hall Square has already been prepared by Engie, which will include the extension of the paving materials used for Osborne Street and the renewal of the York Stone paving outside the Town Hall and replacement of street furniture.
The Town Hall Square project itself has a £500,000 budget, with the rest of the cash set to be split among improvement works to Cartergate, Riverhead and St James Square.
