The Laureates flats on Newgate Street in Cottingham for over 60s unveiled

These pictures show the stunning new apartments in Cottingham which have just been completed and put on the market.

The first few residents have already moved into The Laureates block of 32 apartments on Newgate Street in Cottingham.

Work is still taking place to complete the finishing touches to some parts of the building, exclusive to people aged 60 and over, but the vast majority of flats are already available for new residents.

Local residents were initially 'cautious' about plans for the three-storey development when plans were unveiled by developers McCarthy & Stone in May 2015.

Kathy Thomson, sales executive, said she believes residents have moved to the new development as there is less "maintenance" for them while being able to keep their independence.

"The thing is if people are moving from their property to a bungalow or somewhere smaller, they still have think about all the maintenance involved," she said.

"Here that is all taken care of. We couldn't be in a better location for travel or amenities with the bus stop and station close, and shops too. There are onsite staff to help, but people still have complete independence as well.

"We have people here who have moved from lovely properties, but there just no longer sustainable. For example, if they've given up driving, then we have so much here on their door step."

The building consists of both one bedroom and two bedroom apartments, ranging in price from £179,999 for the cheapest one-bedroom flat to £329,999 for the most expensive two bedroom penthouse.

The first residents moved into the over-60s residential development in February, with seven flats already occupied.

Mrs Thomson said: "There's a great community developing here of like-minded people, so I think it really appeals to a lot of local people.

"The residents who have moved in love it. They are still very independent and I think being here allows them to relax and enjoy that independence.

"I and another member of staff are based here, as well as the dedicated House Manager who's on-site between 9am and 2pm."

The apartments come with fully-fitted kitchens and bathrooms, as well as their own laundry facilities.

All apartments have underfloor heating, and selected flats feature walk-in wardrobes and Juliette balconies or a patio area.

There is also homeowners lounge area where residents regularly meet up socially, as well as gardens on the developments private grounds.
