A well-known Hull pub is currently being demolished.

The Star and Garter, in Portland Street, off Ferensway, is being knocked down as part of the DoubleTree by Hilton development.

The once-popular LGBT venue is being demolished to make way for more parking spaces at the hotel, which opened at the end of last year.

The hotel will be replaced by 32 spaces, bringing the number of available parking spaces for hotel guests and staff up to 75.

On Wednesday, workers could be seen starting the demolition process of the pub, which closed in 2016 just months after reopening as an "exclusive" gay-friendly club.

The Yorkshireman’s owners said they were forced to shut the business as the street had “dropped off over time” and that “it is just not possible to run a successful business here anymore.”
