Cleethorpes Railway Station: Trains, signs and canopies

By Grimsby Telegraph | Posted: 10 Aug 2017

CLEETHORPES Railway Station is to benefit from platform canopies as commuters are given protection from the elements.

Passionate rail advocate and user, Cleethorpes MP Martin Vickers, who met with Graham Meicklejohn, regional development manager at TransPennine Express yesterday, was assured the work would be complete before the end of the year.

“It means people will be undercover as they make their way to and from the trains,” said Mr Vickers, who also raised the inconvenience of recent weekend reductions to a shuttle service to Doncaster as work on the line impinges on capacity.

He had called for a splitting of trains at Doncaster, sending one to the north bank and another south, to avoid passengers having to change, but has been told the East Coast Main Line station’s platform capacity is “so constrained” it would not get permission for the longer stops required.

Finally, TPE is to look at his recommendation to improve the marketing of Habrough and Barnetby stations to promote their proximity to Port of Immingham and Humberside Airport respectively.

“It would certainly help those travelling from outside of the area,” Mr Vickers said.
