Two entrepreneurs have put their business acumen to the test by opening a new family-friendly car wash in west Hull.
Jodie Sewell and Phil Bean, both 37, launched Kingston Hand Car Wash last Saturday with the pair operating their business from a car park in Harpings Road off National Avenue.
The ambitious duo are promising to use professional products to give vehicles that extra shine and after a successful first week, they are already receiving rave reviews.
Mr Sewell said: “We are two local people from Hessle and Cottingham and we’ve got old Yorkshire family values.
“We have both got families ourselves and we want to push that aspect of the business with Hull Indoors Sports Centre and Little Monkeys next to us.
“It’s friendly atmosphere in a big car park and we want people to feel safe when they come to us for a wash.”
The dad-of-two said that the two will be using products by Autoglym which will provide a guaranteed quality finish.
“Using Autoglym promotes the best of British. It might take a little bit longer but the washes will be of a high quality and we will get quicker and quicker as time goes on.
“It gives a fantastic look on the paintwork and it enhances the protection of the metallic paint on the vehicles. It really helps to bring out the shine more.”
Mr Sewell worked for Lazenby Group in north Hull for 21 years before taking the plunge and setting up his own business with his long-time friend Mr Bean.
To get their venture up and running and to keep costs low, the pair haven’t hired any additional workers yet.
However, they are hoping that they will be able to take more workers on as their business grows in size and reputation.
“It’s a long day for us but we want to get started and hopefully work out some kind of shift patterns for additional workers.
“We also want to introduce a valeting service. We’ve had a few teething problems so at the moment we are cleaning the outside of vehicles but we are hoping to get the valet side of the business up and running early next week.”
Basic washes are available from £6 for a car, £7.50 for a small van or an SUV, £10 for a 4x4 or a van and £12.50 for a larger van.
Customers can also pay an extra £4 for a ‘posh wash.’ This uses Carnauba Wax and according to Mr Sewell, it guarantees a “fantastic finish.”
With this being Mr Sewell’s first foray into his business, he is still learning the tricks of the trade.
However, he is hopeful that Kingston Hand Car Wash can become a success as he encouraged motorists to try out his and Mr Bean’s endeavour.
He said: “We are both really looking forward to getting this project going and it was always a case of not if but when we would go into business together and this feels like the right time.
“We want people to come down and give us a try. We are not your average car wash. We go above and beyond hence the Autoglym products and I can guarantee you will be satisfied every time.”
