UNEMPLOYMENT in North Lincolnshire is on the rise again.

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show the number of people on the claimant count is 2,405 - with 1,580 males and 825 females. The January figure was 2,360.

Nationally figures showed that unemployment fell by 31,000 in the three months to January, to 1.58m, the lowest for a decade, giving a jobless rate of 4.7 per cent, the lowest since the summer of 1975.

Anne Brewster, employer and partnership manager for Jobcentre Plus, said: "Generally, this time of year we would normally recognise a greater increase in employment and those claiming benefits because of the time time of year - it is a seasonal factor.

"There is lots going on in the area. There are lots of hospitality jobs and we have recently done an apprenticeship event.

"There are a lot of vacancies for people to apply for. There is lots of support out there."
