BARCLAYS has welcomed a new appointment to the Humber team.

Matt Smith joins as a relationship director and will be responsible for looking after the needs of businesses with a turnover of £6.5 million upwards.

A banker for nearly 30 years, he has extensive knowledge of the corporate sector and most recently he was the national head of marine and transport and then senior director of social housing, delivering large complex transactions, for Clydesdale.

Mr Smith said: “Moving to Barclays is a welcome return to the region, having previously worked in Grimsby, Doncaster, Sheffield and Hull. I was particularly attracted to the growth Barclays is enjoying locally and look forward to adding to that.”

He completed an executive MBA at Hull University in 2012.

Andrew Marsh, head of corporate banking for South Yorkshire and the Humber, said: “Matt’s sector and local market knowledge will be a huge asset for the customers across the region.”
