Zizzi to open restaurant in St Stephen's Centre Hull in June

Hull city centre will be served up a slice of authentic Italy next month with the opening of a new restaurant.

Zizzi is set to open in St Stephens Shopping Centre in the third week of June or the beginning of July.

The Italian restaurant will be located on the top deck of the centre, in the corner unit next to NYC Bar and Grill, which opened in October. The move is expected to create more than 20 new jobs.

Jim Harris, centre manager and chairman of Hull Business Improvement District (BID) said: "It's great that Zizzi has chosen to open in Hull.

"It is a great brand for the city and will add to what is already a really good mix of retail and leisure. A lot of this is down to the noise and the reputation created by being City of Culture.

"The city is becoming a lot more active after 6pm, the night time economy is coming back to life, which is something a lot of people have been working for a long time to achieve.

"We have been chasing Zizzi for two or three years, so we are really pleased to have them opening a restaurant here."

The arrival of the popular chain restaurant comes as the shopping centre faces a time of uncertainty as big brands like Zara and Dorothy Perkins confirm they will be leaving soon. The future of Starbucks is also unclear.

The departure of the popular fashion retailers comes as the leases on 17 units at the shopping centre are up for renewal. The Mail understands 13 of these have signed agreements meaning they will stay in the centre.

Part of The Azzurri Group – the company behind brands such as ASK Italian and Coco di Mama – Zizzi offers authentic Italian dishes ranging from pizza, pasta and risotto to salads and desserts.

It is the latest addition to the centre's top deck, which used to house Gala Bingo.

The area has undergone a massive overhaul as part of a £50m investment programme carried out at St Stephen's over the past year.
